I did not rush to cross the border for two reasons.
One I have to repair a tire on the bike. The pressure sensor broke inside of the tire and when riding for more than 85 miles an hour, I can feel the unbalance of the bike.
Two I was told that many people live in McAllen and work in Mexico, so there is the morning traffic to battle when crossing the border.
Ok, at about 10:30 a.m. I was about to cross the border, so I drove to a booth (american side), I paid $2.25 and then I crossed the bridge, went through some cameras and at the end I received a green or red light (I got green); THEN I went through a military check and I left.
WELL ??? THERE IS NOBODY AT THE BORDER, NOBODY STOPPED ME FOR ANYTHING!!!!!
Ok, so I got directions to where I was going, so I jumped on the route, but the first bridge was CLOSED !!!, so I take a lateral dirt road, a I go around the breach. Thank god I have a GS !!!
Then the second bridge was closed too, but this time, It went over a river, so I was not able to cross it that easily. I have to go 1k around it....of course..there was no signs.
The deal was, the road I took was under construction, basically closed, so there was nobody on the road.
After about an hour, I came across to the first military check point.
The officer kindly asked me....Paper please ?
I kindly reply....What paper you need Sr.?
He said ? Immigration papers Sr. ?
I said ? What kind of immigration paper Sr. ? I do not have any ?
(...)
RANT: The FUCKING Mexican Bastards, trying to be “FIRST WORLD”, they have this very sophisticated immigration system (that they do not know how to use) and there is nobody at the border !!!!! NOBODY stopped me to say “Bienvenido a Mexico” or something.....FUCKING MEXICANS !!!
Apparently, I need to stop, get into a building and ask for immigration process papers ! WELL...fuck that. Not even a sign about it NOTHING....better say....NADA !!!!
Back to the military check, they understood my situation, they explained and they allow me to drive back to the border and do my papers. (ANOTHER HOUR LOST !!)
The first night I stopped in Ciudad Victoria....nothing to see, do not bother to go there, but the first meal was a half of chicken, with soup and stuff for less than $2.50 Cdn!!!!!
Then I asked myself....why do I have to pay for a similar meal in Canada for $25, just because the place is cleaner ? 10 times cleaner? Another rant for another time.
