Volcano Arenal

Tues. Oct. 27, 2009. Right now I am in a hammock dictating to Betty as she types. It was a good ride today. We travelled off road for at least 80 km. After riding through a “dry shadow” of dairy farms we hit the jungle. Waterfalls, lush vegetation with vines even draping off power lines, monkeys, anteaters, birds, butterflies...and then we had a clear view of the Arenal Volcano which is uncommon. Nothing prepared us for its immense size. I am very proud of Plata;s performance. I am travelling heavy with luggage and two up. One of the most challenging sections was around 500 m. of construction road where everything was a few inches of loose dirt and mud where I needed to accelerate Plata through. I was very happy not to have dropped her.

Later at night we went to the Baldi Hot Springs....I have to say It is really cool to go to the hot springs at night...we have a lot of fun ! Including a crazy water slide !
