Leaving Ecuador, was an adventure all by itself. I arrived at the Peruvian border but there was no personnel on the Ecuador side. The Peruvian guard told me I had to return to the town that I had just left to obtain my exit stamps. The exit stamp for my passport was at the entrance of the town. But the exit stamp for my motorcycle was across town at the exit. It was a typical South American drive through the town - crowded, noisy, vendors trying to sell deep fried food or trinkets, and dangerous driving habits.
After I obtained the stamps, I returned to the border. It was strange to ride in a country when my papers indicated I had already left it. At the Peruvian border, the guard welcomed me to the country and shook my hand! This was the first time I was ever greeted in such a friendly manner during my whole trip.
