Fri. Oct. 23, 2009. Nicaragua. My initial plan was to do a night at the capital Granada. However the ride was surprising smooth and I did not stop but continued riding. The only problem was with the corrupted police. They stopped me for crossing over a yellow line which is ridiculous given the way every one drives. I only had a $20 bill but I had to give to the officer in order for him to release me. But the fun did not stop there. In every entrance and exit of a town, there are police positioned to stop you for any reason. In fact they stopped me in another town for no reason but I was able to talk my way out of the situation by telling them I was a police officer in Canada. I ended up in one of the most beautiful places in Nicaragua, San Juan del Sur. It is unbelievable it is a tourist destination but the atmosphere is very nice. Its on the west coast very close to the Costa Rica border, abut 30 km away. Another highlight was the great lake with two volcanoes situated at either end of the water. So far, the Nicaraguan border was the most complex, time-consuming and frustrating to cross with multiple stamps required.
