Luca and I woke up at 3:00 a.m. to see the geisers which, because of the geological natural schedule of pressure build up, are best seen at dawn. It was very cold at -10C. For two hours we had a challenge off road riding experience. I even dropped Plata in a sand dune with the wheels spinning at a slow speed.
By 5:00 a.m. I was frozen despite my heated gear and Luca, who has no winter gear, could ride no further. We were only 20 km away from our 100 km destination. Fortunately, we stopped just as a tour van was passing. We parked our bikes behind some abandonned house and joined the tour (at a discount I should add.) We even were fed coffee, ham, cheese and chocolates. A great day.
