Late yesterday afternoon, Sunday, January 3, 2010, I received the most wonderful phone call from Victor. He was in Ushuia! I could hear both the excitement and emotion in his voice on the realization that he had finally reached his destination after so many months on the road. He said it was 10:29 p.m. but the sun was still up and the town was beautiful.
It has been almost a full year since the planning began. I thought of the many months it has taken Victor to reach his goal and how far he has come. Not just meeting the physical challenges of being on the road, but the emotional challenges as well.
It is hard to believe that we used to study the American maps pinned to his apartment wall in Vancouver and that he has actually travelled those red lines to Tierra de Fuego. Its been five long months and I could hear in his voice that he almost found it unbelievable that the had made it.
This morning, January 4, 2010, Victor phoned on Skype. I could see Victor's excitement - he was just beaming and almost levitating despite the little sleep he had the previous night. He probably still found it hard to believe he was in sunny Ushuia eating chicken, french fries and Neapolitan icecream. This afternoon will be the ferry ride to see penguins.
Thank you to everyone who has supported Victor by sharing their advise and belief in him. Victor has amazing friends.
It has been the first "journey of a life time" for Victor - I am sure there will be more in his future. I love you Babe for who you are.
